Words Aloud works to support the best in poetry and spoken word from across Canada and beyond at an annual festival held in Grey County, Ontario, where we present a captivating blend of poetry, spoken word, storytelling and musical performances, writing workshops, and more.
This year, the Words Aloud organization, in conjunction with Coffin Ridge Winery, is holding a summer competition in support of their annual November festival.
The first place winner will see their poem(s) publishes on the Words Aloud Website. They will also receive a $50 honorarium and a special gift from Coffin Ridge Winery, as well as a complimentary pass to the Words Aloud Festival in November.
The top three poets will have the option of reading their submissions, on August 30th at a Words Aloud Gala, where a winner will be chosen. (Those unable to attend may choose to have a judge, or friend read in their place.)
2nd and 3rd prizes will include a $25 honorarium in addition to the publication of their submission, at WordsAloud.ca.
Three judges, from the local and national literary community, will assess submissions.
Rules, deadline and fees:
· You may submit up to three poems per entry
· Please limit total submission to 120 lines
· Previously unpublished poems are encouraged
· Please submit by July 20, 2019
· Fee is $10 CAD per submission
· Members of the Words Aloud Committee may not enter the contest.
Top three winning submissions will be read, (by the poet, a judge, or other person chosen to take their place,) at the Coffin Ridge Winery fundraiser on Friday evening of August 30th, 2019, where the winners will be announced to the public.
